Choosing the right grout cleaning brush

It may seem trivial at first, but choosing the right kind of brush to use when cleaning grout can make a tremendous difference in the quality of your cleaning. Trying to clean grout with a bad brush is like fighting a losing battle.

Think of it like this: if you had a layer of plaque on your teeth, would a dentist use a soft-bristle toothbrush? Of coure not! They'd get in there with a brush with bristles that were much harder than ordinary ones.

Your floor is the same way. You can scrub for hours with a soft-bristle brush and not get anything done, but when using a proper brush your floor will look great.

There are many different standard brushes out there, but to get the best cleaning in the shortest amount of time you need a brush specially designed for use cleaning grout. Sealants

Everybody's been asking us how we feel about grout and tile sealers, especially because they are nowhere to be found on our website. The reason for that is because, well, we don't feel too strongly about the quality of current sealant products.

Grout and tile sealants are used after cleaning and is meant to protect your grout from becoming dirty again. It seems like a good idea in theory, but so far there isn't a good implimentation of that. The problem with using a sealant is that a few days after application, your grout and tile will have a slick, waxy yellow-colored coat that not only looks and feels bad, it will start to crack and flake after a while and you'll have to remove all of it and re-apply the sealant. That's because it doesn't go anywhere after you apply it, it just sits on top of your grout lines and dries, as opposed to absorbing into the grout and strengthening it.

It's also VERY time consuming and tedious to apply. You have to get on your hands and knees with a small brush of some kind and literally "paint" the grout lines individually with the sealant. Can you imagine how long that would take? It's pretty rediculous! It'd be pretty awful to spend an entire day applying sealant on your floor just to have it all flake off a little while later.

Our recommendation would be to use a maintainer, such as our professional Groutrageous Grout and Tile Maintainer. This differs from a sealant in that it doesn't apply a whole "protective" waxy coat on it, it instead cleans deep within grout lines, not only making it look great and bringing out the original color of your grout but since it absorbs into the grout, it keeps it cleaner for longer than any other product on the market. It's also got a neutral pH balance to actually prevent any haze or wax build-up.
The best part about it is it's a no-rinse formula. You apply it, and you don't have to rinse it off at all, and it leaves behind a fresh fragrance to eliminate any foul mop odors.

This is due to letting the chemical used to clean the grout to dry, and then dirt and other particles get trapped on the sticky dry tile and form a gross film layer on it.
